“阿拉斯加湾”位于北美东南部，阿拉斯加州南部。它是平静海洋的一部分。海湾顶部位于北部，向南开放，西边是阿拉斯加群岛，东边是亚历山大群岛。阿拉斯加湾的总面积约为153万平方公里，大致相当于非洲内亚湾的面积。
阿拉斯加海湾是世界九大著名海湾之一，海面呈现两个颜色，由于密度的关系，两片海不能融为一体。
作曲家菲德尔看到这个海湾，就把这两种海水想成了两个相爱却不能在一起的人，于是写下了这首歌——一千多万游客去过阿拉斯加湾，但只有菲德尔把它写成了情歌。
《阿拉斯加海湾》这首歌，诞生于这样的故事背景下，歌词紧扣这样的背景故事展开，却从未提到阿拉斯加海湾本身。
