岢罗坨原名“李家峪”，苛罗坨名字源于明代，明太祖朱元璋的马皇后重病得戒台寺主持医治康复，明太祖朱元璋为了嘉奖主持将戒台寺下一小山村李家峪改名为“岢罗坨”。

包含全国共有五大佛教圣地：北京的潭柘寺、戒台寺、山西的苛山、河南的萝山、浙江的普陀山，明太祖朱元璋将苛山、萝山、普陀山，各取一个字连起来成了“岢罗坨”。意思是“岢罗坨”村子虽小，它可包北京以外三处佛经圣地，加上附近的潭柘寺、戒台寺，门头沟一个地方就成了全国五大佛经圣地的代称。<br/><br/>

苛萝坨村在一个小小的山峪里，三面环山。村子顺着山谷，东西走向一字排开，村北是石龙山，村南是六国岭，村西则是罗睺岭。紧挨着村西头的山坳上，就是著名的“西峰寺”。这个“西峰寺”又被称为“六王爷家庙”。六王爷就是咸丰、同治、光绪年间的恭亲王奕䜣，他行六，史上又称“鬼子六”。咸丰十一年，咸丰病死热河，慈禧野心开始暴露，与恭亲王等一起密谋策划了“辛酉政变”，推翻了“顾命大臣”制度，实行了两宫“垂帘听政”，这之中奕䜣起了重大作用，并由此掌握了朝廷的大权。<br/><br/>

后慈禧怕恭亲王专权就借故撤了他的职。奕䜣为躲避**风险，举家来到戒台寺隐居，一住就是十年。期间他斥巨资为戒台寺修建罗汉堂、千佛阁等庙堂。戒台寺主持达文和尚为了感谢奕䜣对佛门的巨大贡献，就把戒台寺下属的西峰寺送给奕䜣作为他逝后的阴宅。奕䜣为此大兴土木，修建了地宫。但后来慈禧又昭他回朝任职，他死后葬在了慈禧封给他的在昌平的墓地，没用上这个“百年享地”，而他的后人则葬在了这里。<br/><br/>

在北京西郊门头沟永定镇岢罗坨村村西，有一座明代古石桥，命名为“娼妓桥”，由于主要由妓女捐资兴建，故名。京西娼妓桥或许是全国仅有的一座以娼妓命名的桥，目前作为区级文物受到保护。<br/><br/>

古桥建于明代初年，为三孔石拱桥，南北走向，青条石砌筑而成。青石系附近青龙山所产。桥基、涵洞券石、桥栏等设计精巧，上有精美的雕刻。石桥总长20.72米桥基，桥面有效宽度4.1米。民国六年（1917年），一场山洪冲毁了半座古桥，桥身现存10余米。古桥掩隐在村落之中，并不显眼。<br/><br/>

京西古刹戒台寺距岢罗坨村不远，昔时，每年四月人们都要到戒台寺“赶秋坡”，男男女女穿红挂绿，纷纷前往戒台寺进香、玩耍。全国各地娼妓包括说书的、唱戏的、卖艺的一类职业女性也来到戒台寺进香，向那普度众生的佛祖祈祷，愿大慈大悲的菩萨保佑她们这些可怜的人，叫她们早日脱离苦海，获得新生。<br/><br/>

据顺天府宛平县知县沈榜所撰《宛署杂记》记载：“戒坛是先年僧人奏建说法之处，自四月初八至十五止，天下游僧毕会，商贾辐辏，其旁有地名秋坡，倾国妓女竞往逐焉，俗云赶秋坡。”由于娼妓身份低贱，只可从后门进寺。那时山沟里的水很大，女子们鞋弓袜小多有不便，为了方便上山，便捐资兴建此桥，情愿将此桥作为自己的替身，让千人踩、万人踏，一是赎罪，二是积累功德，只盼来世不再坠入娼门。据传，男子夜卧此桥，多生异梦。<br/><br/>
